This morning, the desktop computers in the Library Reading Room were configured for swipe-to-print using Pharos. The process took about 2 hours. 7 computers were not completed; 4 were in use by students, and 3 need to be reimaged altogether because of software issues. The remaining computers will be completed shortly. A&IT staff have verified that the default printer for students is set to the correct Pharos queue, and verified that student accounts can print and release successfully at designated devices.

Signage and step-by-step documentation for swipe-to-print was provided to Library staff this morning for posting on the devices and other key locations.

At this point, students in the Reading Room and the BRO 1330 computer lab can release their print jobs at any printer at the following locations using their DolphinOne card:

  • Broome Library Reading Room;
  • Broome Library Rooom 1330 computer lab; and
  • Broome Library printer/copiers, located on 1st and 2nd floor behind Freudian Sip.

In addition, both card stations are now live in Broome Library and the University Student Union. They are now known as DOCKs: DolphinOne Card Kiosks (formerly called PHIL stations or card charging kiosks). Students, employees and guests can currently use the stations to add funds to their DolphinOne and CI Guest cards and check balances on their card accounts. In a few weeks, the DOCKs will enable you to purchase a CI Guest card.

Here's a close-up:

The stations accept cash, Visa and Mastercard for adding funds and purchasing Guest cards. Learn more about the DOCKs.

Yesterday, we went live with our first Swipe-to-print rollout in the Library, and it's working well so far.

Two color printers are connected to the new system. One is in Broome Library 1330:

The other (which can both copy and print) is located by the 1st floor restrooms behind Freudian Sip:

Both will print in black and white by default. Using the printer properties dialog on a lab computer, students can choose to print in color if desired.

In the coming weeks, we will be adding more printers and copiers to the swipe-to-print system.

Today we met to discuss our requirements for extending CashNet self-service through myCI.

The University already uses CashNet for processing student payment of fees through CI Records.

During this next CashNet implementation phase, we will be extending CashNet functionality to enable students and employees to add funds to their various DolphinOne Card account "buckets" via myCI.

A kick-off conference call with the CashNet team has been scheduled for Monday, June 7 at 3pm.

The PHIL stations have been installed in the University Student Union (USU) and Broome Library.

Here's the location in the USU:

It's located in the alcove next to the water fountains, near the reception area.

Here's what it will look like once operational:

It was nice to see that the USU staff at the reception desk were already aware of its existence. However, because it's tucked away, additional signage may be necessary to improve visibility of its location.

Here's the one on the 1st floor of Broome Library, right behind Freudian Sip:

NOTE: both stations are currenty being configured and are not operational. Out of order signs are posted on both stations.
